Julian Reyes, MA, LMFT · Couples & relationship counselling
Two people.
One relationship
worth tending.
I help couples who love each other but keep getting stuck: the same fights, the growing distance, the betrayal you are not sure how to come back from. In person in Asheville and online across North Carolina.

Approach
In my room there are three chairs. The third one is for your relationship.
I am not here to decide who is right. My client is the space between you: the patterns, the protective moves, the longing underneath the criticism or the silence.
Sessions blend the Gottman Method's practical tools with Emotionally Focused Therapy's attention to attachment. You will leave with things to try at home, and with a deeper sense of why you each react the way you do.
Chair one
Your story
Each of you is heard fully, without interruption, without being rushed to a solution.
Chair two
Their story
Learning to listen for the feeling beneath the words, even when it is hard to hear.
The third chair
Your bond
Naming the cycle you both get caught in, so you can step out of it together.
What we work on
The knots couples bring to the room.
Married, dating, engaged, separated and considering, monogamous or not. All couples are welcome here.
Communication that keeps breaking down
Same argument, different week. We find the pattern beneath the topic.
Rebuilding after an affair
A structured, unhurried path through disclosure, repair and deciding what comes next.
Emotional distance
Roommates rather than partners. Rediscovering curiosity and closeness.
Intimacy & desire differences
Talking openly about sex without blame, shame or a scoreboard.
Becoming parents
The seismic shift of a new baby, fertility journeys, or blended families.
Pre-commitment counselling
Before marriage or moving in: money, family, conflict styles and hopes.
Discernment counselling
For when one of you is leaning out. Clarity before any big decision.
LGBTQ+ & non-traditional relationships
Affirming work with all couples and relationship structures.

Conflict is not the problem. Disconnection is.
Healthy couples still argue. What changes is how quickly you find your way back to each other.
How it works
A clear path, so neither of you walks in blind.
Step 1
Free 20-minute call
Together or one of you. Ask anything, share what is going on, and see if we click.
Step 2
Joint first session, 80 minutes
Your story as a couple: how you met, what is working, what hurts. I will share my early impressions honestly.
Step 3
One individual session each
A chance to speak about your history and hopes on your own, within our no-secrets policy.
Step 4
Feedback & plan
I map out the cycle I see and propose goals. You both shape the plan before we go further.

About Julian
Warm, direct, and firmly on the side of your relationship.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has worked only with couples for over a decade, first at a community family centre and, since 2018, in private practice. Couples tell me I am calm in the storm and not afraid to name what is happening.
I have been married for fifteen years. I know firsthand that love takes practice, repair and a fair bit of humour.

FAQ
What couples ask before they begin.
That is very common. Often the reluctant partner worries they will be ganged up on. I am not on either side; my client is the relationship itself. Many hesitant partners feel relieved after the first session. You are also welcome to book the free call together so they can ask me questions first.
